What is WEEE?

Over a million tonnes of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) goes into landfill every year and the majority of the waste is toxic, which can have a long-term impact on the environment.

The WEEE Regulations came into force on 2nd January 2007 and were implemented six months later on 1st July 2007. Their aim is to reduce this environmental impact by increasing recycling and recovery rates.

“Commercial end users of waste electrical products covered under the WEEE Regulations must ensure it’s transferred to someone who can recycle it professionally.” To see End User's Obligations - Click here.

It seeks to achieve this by making producers, including Newey & Eyre with its exclusive range of Newlec branded products, take on the financial obligations for the collection, treatment and recovery of end-of-life electrical and electronic equipment.

It also requires end users of the waste to ensure that products are separated from general business waste and recycled where ‘producer responsibility’ does not apply.
